本州、四国、小笠原諸島（父島、母島）及び琉球列島（宮古島、石垣島）に分布する。H. corticisに一見よく似るが、腿節が黄色から褐黄色であることで区別できる（corticisは褐色）。主に常緑広葉樹の枯れ枝から得られる。食菌性。

This species is distributed in Honshu, Shikoku, the Ogasawara Islands (Chichi-jima Is., Haha-jima Is.) and the Ryukyu Islands (Miyako Is., Ishigaki Is.). it is somewhat similar to H. cortices in appearance, but can be distinguished by the yellow to brownish yellow femora (brown in cortices). It is mainly obtained from the dead branches of evergreen broad-leaved trees. Fungus-feeder.
